Tips & Tricks
Carpet Cleaning
What you’ll need:
- Bissell Oxy Stain Remover or preferred carpet cleaning solution
- Paper Towels
- Dampened Sponge (we cut ours in half)
What you do:
- Fold over a paper towel until you have at least 2 layers and it is big enough to cover the spot.
- Lightly press with your foot (don't stomp or step too firmly) to pull up as much as you can
- Spray the area with the carpet cleaning solution
- Place the dampened sponge over the area and tap, tap, tap with your foot moving it around the area.
- Fold over another paper towel and stomp stomp to pull up wetness
- I usually repeat these steps, rinsing the sponge in between, until I feel the pee/poo stain is removed.
Salinas Skunk Funk Eliminator
What you’ll need:
- Nature’s Miracle skunk solution or your preferred skunk odor removing solution.
- Dish soap (in a spray bottle if you can)
- Your preferred dog shampoo. We use Natural Dog Company Itchy Dog Shampoo.
- Dog conditioner if you have it. We use Paul Mitchell Pet Soothing Oatmeal Conditioner.
What you do:
- Use the outdoor hose (I know, it’s awful) and wash pup with Dawn. Skunk spray is oily. If it’s good for oil slick ducks it’s good for skunk funked dogs.
- Hose off the majority if the soap.
- If they pass a cursory sniff test their ok to take inside to your favorite washing station.
- Use the Nature’s miracle Skunk removal solution. I cover our pups head to toe. Focus on the spots that have the most funk.
- Let them soak for 10 minutes and remind them that they’ll never win a battle of wills against a skunk.
- Shampoo with your preferred dog shampoo and rinse.
- Do a sniff test all over. If you find smelly areas, follow the Dawn > skunk solution > shampoo > sniff process, focusing on the spot.
- Use conditioner if you have it. Dawn will dry their skin.
